Early Years Intervention –to support families with young children, offering culturally ­sensitive parenting support and encourage skill building

Primary to Secondary School Transitions – A transitions lead will help children and their families navigate the critical move into secondary school, supporting both academic engagement and family confidence.

School Transitions lead - ONE POST

Starting date: 6 October 2026‍

Salary: £30,225 (pro rata), 15 hrs a week, 2% income increase yearly

Address: 43 Nithsdale Street, Glasgow, G41 2PZ and Annette Street Primary School‍

Pension: 3%‍

Hours: 15 hours per week

Romano Lav is seeking the right person to join our team as a School Transitions Lead, supporting Roma children and their families as they navigate the move from primary to secondary school.

This is an exciting new role, created to provide support at a crucial stage in young people's lives. The successful candidate will work closely with children, families and schools to build confidence, strengthen engagement with education, and help ensure that young people have the support they need to thrive during this important transition.

This is a unique opportunity to help shape a brand-new project and make a meaningful difference to the educational experiences and future opportunities of Roma young people in Glasgow.

This role will provide practical, emotional and relationship-based support to Roma pupils and their families before, during and after the transition into secondary school. The School Transitions lead will act as a trusted bridge between schools, pupils and families, helping parents feel confident navigating the school system while supporting young people to remain engaged in education.

This post has been funded until March 2028

The role will include:

-Building relationships with P7 pupils and families before transition to high school

-co-delivering a summer activity programme

-Delivering family drop-ins and a Study Café/homework support space (supported by volunteers)

-Supporting parents with practical issues such as online forms, school communication, and digital literacy

-Providing practical support to Annette Street Primary School (form filling, high school liaison etc)

-Acting as a trusted link between schools and families

-regular check ins with children to encourage school attendance

-basic progress report writing

We are looking for someone who:

-Has experience and works well with children and families

-Has strong communication and relationship-building skills

-Is organised, reliable and community-minded

-Has good digital literacy skills

-Has a “can-do” attitude

Desirable:

-Ability to speak Romanian, Slovak, Czech or Romanes

-Experience working with Roma communities, schools, youth work or family support

-Understands the barriers faced by local Roma communities
